I write this from my black-lit room on a sleety and snowy Saturday night in Philadelphia. There are zero “Big Dick Nick” chants to be heard (as of yet). My windows are cold but we actually turned the heat on and so I’m comfortably warm. I took the effort to actually change into pajamas. To get to the point, this Midnight Snack album by HOMESHAKE is perfectly setting the vibe right now. The warm and sexy basslines have become my inner campfire and it’s hyping me up in the subtlest way possible for this First Unitarian Church show tomorrow night.
HOMESHAKE consists of four members, including Peter Sagar, the former guitarist for Mac Demarco’s live-shows, along with Mark Goetz, Greg Napier, and Brad Loughead. They started in 2012 and have released three albums since. Fresh Air is the group’s most recent album, released in February 2017. Inspired by Peter going out onto his porch every night to smoke, the album definitely delivers with its name. The album’s fine-tuned low-key and lo-fi bedroom sound is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air in an over-crowded indie field in 2018.
Either way, HOMESHAKE is set to deliver tomorrow night at one of Philly’s most unique concert-venues and I am definitely ready to get cozy in a church.
